There is a great video by Baba Brinkman (he wrote the widely praised Rap Guide to Evolution) on the importance of urban space in preserving the environment. This video highlights how cities are an experimental ground where modern human societies shape a new, and growing, ecological niche. Further understanding of our impact on urban evolutionary and ecological systems – where we act both as agents but also as recipients – is therefore key.
